Personal RSS feeds - What is RSS
FPinfomart users can now subscribe via RSS to any of their individual Personal Profiles (news and/or broadcast results), any Current Events topics, any Industry News categories, and any individual Managed Profile.

Personal RSS feeds help to alert users about new content uploaded to FPinfomart throughout the day. As such they complement, or can replace, the existing morning e-mails service.

RSS: What is it?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.

RSS is a software tool that uses a web feed to retrieve your customized search results. Instead of logging on to your favorite news or blog sites to browse for new content, you can get all newly loaded content from these sites sent directly to you!

In order to use this time-saving tool, you only need to complete two quick steps.

  1. Obtain a RSS reader. The latest versions of both Internet Explorer and Firefox have readers built into them. But, there are also other sites where you can download RSS readers. You can also choose a Web-based reader, if you do not wish to install any software - Google Reader is very popular, for example.
  2. Set up a connection between your reader and your favorite news and blogs sites. You can establish this connection by ‘subscribing’ to the site. This is generally done by clicking the standard orange RSS icon and following the associated instructions. On FPinfomart.ca, click the orange-coloured RSS link next to the title of any Personal Profile, Industry News topic, Current Event, or Managed Profile to which you'd like to subscribe.

Once subscribed, your reader is able to check for new content at an interval that you determine, and retrieve the updated content. When instructed, the reader asks all of the servers on its subscribed list if they have added new content since the last time it checked. If so, the reader retrieves that content and will present it to you.
