Importing External Content to FPinfomart Folders

You may now add links to, and metadata about external (non-FPinfomart) content to your Saved and Shared Folders. Adding this information will allow you to include this external content in your Media Analysis reports.

There are two ways to add information about external content to your Folders:

  1. A link on the Folders page
  2. A bookmarklet

Add content to Folders using a link from the Folders page

Click "Folders" at the top of Fpinfomart.ca to load your Folders page. Click the "Add external content" link to access the form. Fill out as much information about the content as possible. Make sure you include the URL of the content so that you can access it again in future. Click Save.

Add content to Folders using a bookmarklet

A bookmarklet is a bookmark, usually stored in your Browser's Bookmark Bar, which contains a small application allowing you to pull up the data entry form for adding content to Folders without leaving the page on which you've found the content.

The advantages to using the Bookmarklet include:

  • Adding pages to your Folder as soon as you discover them
  • Not having to return to FPinfomart.ca to add content from other sites
  • Some of the information will already be filled in for you (e.g. URL, Title, etc.)
  • A portion of the page text that you designate can be filled in as the description

To add the bookmarklet, click the "Import" link located in the light-blue navigation bar at the top of any Fpinfomart.ca page. We will detect which Web Browser you're currently using and show you detailed instructions on saving the bookmarklet. Please follow these instructions directly.

You will now see a button labelled "Add to Fpinfomart Folder." If you can't see the Bookmarks Bar, Choose "Show Bookmarks Bar" from the View menu.

When you discover a non-Fpinfomart article online that you'd like to add to your Folder, click the bookmarklet. A form will pop up (or replace the current page, depending on your Browser settings), asking you to enter some metadata (some information should already be auto-populated.

TIP:Use your mouse to highlight a section of text in the page BEFORE clicking the bookmarklet button. This section will then automatically be added to the "Description" field in the form.

For an illustrated description of this help document, please see our blog entry on the topic.

NOTE: FPinfomart will NOT include the full text of the content you add, only the metadata that you enter. This feature is not intended to allow you to add external content to our serivce. Information is to be used for Analysis purposes only. URL's are to be included to allow you to refer back to the original content.
