NOTE: We will be making changes to our TV Monitoring functionality during the week of January 25th. This help document has been modified to reflect the NEW functionality.
Results from TV are intermingled with News results. Some specific TV Monitoring tools can be also accessed from the Broadcast Monitoring portion of our navigation menu on the left side of the FPinfomart.ca website. The Television Monitoring menu items include:
Also covered in this document are tips for viewing, sharing, and downloading TV clips.Accessing TV Content
When creating a Personal Profile or Quick Search, you may elect to include the TV Stations as sources within your search. If you do so, any TV results will be intermingled with your other media types (such as newspapers, wires, blogs, and magazines). To view ONLY the TV results, use the Media Navigator in the navigators pane on the right side of your results.
Browse Television is equivalent to the News Monitoring function "Browse Latest News." This allows you to view the TV content that was broadcast so far on a particular day. TV content is divided into 10 minute chunks, beginning on the 10's (e.g. 11:00; 11:10; 11:20; etc.).
To begin, click "Browse Television" in the Television Monitoring menu. Click a channel of your choice. You will then see a list of peeks representing each 10 minute chunk broadcast so far during the current day. Use the drop-down day box at the top right corner to navigate to the date (within the past 10 days) that you wish to browse.
Click the headline (Program title) to view the transcript and video clip for that 10 minute segment. You may then click the video player at the top of your screen begin watching that segment of video.
Search Television is equivalent to the News Monitoring function "Quick Search." This allows you to retrieve TV clips that match a keyword or exact phrase. You can search all of our TV content, or specify a channel or group of channels to search.
To use this search function, simply click on the Search Television button in the Television Monitoring portion of the left-side navigation menu..
Enter your search word or phrase in the box provided.
By default, "All Channels" will be selected. If you would prefer to restrict your search to a specific channel, group of channels, or network, select the appropriate option below. Once you have entered your search criteria, click ‘Search’ to proceed.
If your search matched any clips, the "PEEK" view of the transcript of your retrieved video hits will be displayed.
By default, Search Television only searches today’s broadcasts. Therefore, the results that you are presented with will only be a list of hits that match your search phrase which were broadcast today.
If you would like to view results from other recent days, you can use the rolling ten day archive (date navigator at the top of the right-side Navigators column) to load the search results for the indicated date.
Viewing, Saving, and Downloading TV clipsThere are three things you can do with a TV clip:
- View its transcript and video clip
- Share the transcript & associated TV clip with your colleagues
- Download a copy of the TV clip to your computer for your personal use.
These steps do NOT have to be performed in sequence, though you must save a video to a Folder before you can share it.
Each of the steps above may have a transactional charge associated with it; please consult your contract or your sales representative for details.
Viewing TV Results
To view the results of your Television Profiles, click Television Profiles’ on the Television Monitoring navigation menu. This menu is on the left-side of your screen. Once clicked, your screen will refresh to display a summary of your profiles’ results for today.
Just like with news results, TV results are shown as a list of ‘peeks’. The peek display includes the name of the program, the keyword in context, the network and channel, the geographic location of the broadcaster, the broadcast date and time, the length of the clip, as well as the sentiment ratings.
Click on the headline of the peek to view the transcript and associated video clip.
Videos clips play in the Flash player. To view a video clip, click the player at the top of the screen.
Sharing a television clipTo Share a Television clip, you must first save the video to a Folder.
From within the Saved Folder, open the video/transcript view. Your Document Tools menu will contain the option to "Share Video." Sharing the video entitles you to redistribute the video with others in your organization. Clicking this will generate a customized URL which you can subsequently pass around to your colleagues (note also that there is a charge for Sharing video). When your end-users click the link you distribute, they'll be taken to a hosted page on our site containing the video clip and transcript. Your recipients do NOT need an FPinfomart UserID and password to view this Shared video.
Furthermore, once you have Shared a video, the E-mail function in the Document Tools menu will now INCLUDE the link described above (and not just the transcript) when the e-mail is sent. Your recipient may now view the video clip as well as the transcript.
Whether or not you have saved or shared a video clip, you will see a "Download" link in the Document Tools menu in the top right corner of the view transcript/video screen. Click the Download link and specify where on your computer you wish to save the video.
Note: Our downloadable video is in Flash Video (FLV) format.
It is viewable with many free Flash Video Players, including FLV Player and VLC media player.
If neither of these players suit your technical requirements, simply search for another free flash player, and include your requirements in the search criteria (e.g. Mac, opensource, etc.)
